This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response and emergency life support to a casualty in a remote and/or isolated situation.

The unit applies to workers who may be required to prepare for and provide a first aid response in locations beyond the reach of timely medical assistance.

Specific licensing /regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.

HLTAID005 Provide first aid in remote situation is a very useful and important unit for all members of the workforce to possess. It provides learners with the skills and knowledge to respond to remote emergency situations, apply appropriate first aid procedures, manage incidents, convey incident details to emergency response services, including the requirements for evacuation of casualties, recognise the possible psychological impacts on self and other rescuers involved in critical incidents and participate in debriefings.
